Marsh Road Boys and Girls Club gym unveiling gallery

Through the generosity of the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation and its partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA), youth of the Greater Charlotte Boys & Girls Club on Marsh Road are playing in a brand new gym. The Charlotte club is one of 19 sites across the country awarded a grant to take on an ambitious project to completely refurbish the gym from the hoops to the floor. The Charlotte Bobcats have taken the project even further, committing to hold basketball clinics for the kids and even lending their artwork to the design of the gym.
The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Charlotte was selected based on the structural needs of the organization, the creativity of the project, and its impact on Club members. The unveiling and ribbon cutting of the new gym, located at 940 Marsh Road, was held Thursday, May 6 at 4 P.M., much to the excitement of the club members. Leading the fun was the Charlotte Bobcats mascot, Rufus, and the Lady Cats cheerleaders. Lowe’s employees provided a hands-on Build & Grow Clinic for club members to take home.
"We are grateful to the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation for giving us the opportunity to revitalize an area of the Club that is so important for the young people we serve," said Marty Clary, executive director of the clubs. "To have Lowe’s charitable arm, its stores and employees giving back, and the Charlotte Bobcats lending their support sets a wonderful example for our members and is proof positive there are others who really care."
"We are pleased to partner with Boys & Girls Clubs of America on these projects across the country," said Larry D. Stone, chairman of the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation. "We will be helping children have a safe, inspiring place to go, therefore building a stronger foundation for our future employees and customers."
