On January 19, over 100 elementary school students had the opportunity to learn a very important life lesson from Bobcats Gerald Henderson, Gana Diop and Acie Law, as well as Chimere and Kia of the Lady Cats, Rufus and arena host Miguel Vargas. This contingent of Bobcats players and staff spent the afternoon at University Meadows Elementary School enforcing the importance of physical activity.

The group found multiple ways to get the students active, leading fitness stations, teaching dance routines and discussing the importance of daily physical activity.

"It’s very important to teach kids about staying physically fit," said Henderson. "When I was a kid, I loved to go out and play basketball, football and soccer; I just loved to play sports. I’m older now and I see how important it was for me to play sports and stay in shape, so we’re just trying to teach these kids to stay healthy and stay active."

Vargas led the students in stretches before they were broken into groups and put at their different stations.

Law and Henderson led the students in a game of knockout basketball and Diop led another group in jump rope. Chimere and Kia instructed students in a simple but fun dance routine. Rufus joined in on the fun and made sure the students were excited through out the entire rally.

"I had a lot of fun. These kids bring so much energy and spirit to everything they do," Henderson added.

Representatives from Presbyterian Hospital also contributed at their own station, where they showed students the importance of washing your hands often and thoroughly.

"The students were so energized and excited about this event," beamed University Meadows Afterschool Site Director Robyn Efir.

The rally ended with a healthy snack, followed by a question-and-answer session between the students, players and cheerleader.
